Sustainability

Leaving nothing but footprints

Building a sustainable future

At Carafin Activity Park we’re dedicated and committed to the conservation of the park and its environment, conserving and managing the area which forms part of Ireland’s hidden heartlands. We’re part of the Leave No Trace movement and we’re making the park as sustainable as possible with solar lighting, rainwater harvesting, waste management, biodiversity and so much more.

We follow the 7 Leave no Trace Principles

1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
2. Be Considerate of Others
3. Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
4. Travel and Camp on Durable Ground
5. Leave What You Find
6. Dispose of Waste Properly
7. Minimise the Effects of Fire

Practising a Leave No trace ethic is very simple: Make it hard for others to see or hear you and LEAVE NO TRACE of your visit

We are committed, and enjoy, finding ways in which we can reduce the impact of our work both on and off the water. It is our policy to: Recycle as much waste material as possible, avoid the use of paper wherever possible, become self-sufficient.

Business Sustainability

Carafin Activity Park completed a Business Sustainability Training Programme with Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, facilitated by The Tourism Space in September 2022. The Business Sustainability Training Programme is a framework that allows businesses located within Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark to come together to build a sustainable tourism offering, achieve cost savings through reductions in waste, water and energy consumption and benefit from becoming a member of The Geopark Business Network.

Our Aims

  • Energy Conservation & Energy Management
  • Biodiversity and Tourism in The Geopark
  • Water Conservation & Water Management
  • Leave no Trace
  • Waste Management
  • Accessible and Inclusive Tourism
  • Marketing The Geopark Together
  • Building sustainability into The Geopark
  • Visitor Experience

The Geopark is working to expand The Geopark Business Network and invites businesses to complete the Geoparks Sustainability Training Programme as an entry point for membership.

The training programme is highly practical providing businesses with the tools to establish baseline information and benchmark standards in the areas of energy, water, and waste management. The programme also expands to cover biodiversity, conservation, marketing, and promotion. Find more information here.
